Expanding Human Potential
Designing & Creating Tools that will Revolutionize the Surgical Theatres of the Future.

Developing surgical robots and technologies that enhance quality and access to Healthcare for patients in Canada and across the Globe is our primary mission. Expanding human potential, designing and creating tools that will revolutionize the surgical theatres of the future is our goal. The goals we have set for the Centre of Surgical Invention and Innovation (CSii) are both lofty and achievable.

Building on Canada’s reputation and expertise in space robotics and minimal access surgery, the cornerstone of the CSii mission is the development of real time image guided surgical robotic platforms designed to augment the skills of surgeons and interventionalists, expanding their capacity and effectiveness by providing them with greater access, dexterity and ability to perform complex surgical procedures with unwavering precision. The ultimate goal will be to increase access to advanced surgical care while minimizing healthcare costs to Canadians.

The Centre has attracted distinguished leadership to the Board of Directors, members from multiple sectors with national and international representation from business, the scientific community, industry, commerce, healthcare and academia.

Incorporated as a not-for-profit organization, CSii has filled all major staffing positions and established business offices at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and McMaster Innovation Park. We hope we will be able to offer our first commercial robotic platform by 2013, a full year ahead of schedule.

CSii has launched business development initiatives actively seeking outstanding research projects to develop through direct mail awareness campaigns and online interactive web tools. The Centre is devoted to collaborating to create new ventures that will stimulate the local and national economy, create new jobs and better healthcare outcomes for Canadians.
